TSI introduces environmental DustTrak for long-term monitoring

I know, I know. I haven’t posted anything in a while. I’d like to think of it as a summer vacation, but it reallyenvdt_closed wasn’t. But enough about me…

Over the summer, TSI introduced its new DustTrak which has been specifically redesigned for long-term outdoor environmental monitoring. While throwing the desktop version into a Pelican case or the other environmental enclosure works fine for short-term projects, the newer version is more rugged and designed specifically for long-term outdoor use.

The system uses Netronix’ cloud based data management system, so you can monitor your results through a web browser and your PC or mobile device. It has a longer pump life (up to 10,000 hours) that is field replaceable and can be programmed to zero automatically to assure accurate measurements. You can monitor PMTotal, PM10, PM2.5 and PM1.0 mass fractions simultaneously in real time while taking a gravimetric sample using a 37mm filter, if you need to.

It’s easier to add third-party plug-and-play sensors for other monitoring needs like metrology, wind speed and direction, gas detection including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), noise, and vibration.

TSI also made some really nice changes to the inlet. It is combined with a water trap, can include an impactor for gravimetric samples, and has the option for a heated inlet to improve accuracy in high humidity environments (a subject we discussed last year). Having the water trap outside the enclosure makes it easier to inspect, and reduces the chance that equipment inside gets wet.

The environmental DustTrak is ideal for a number of applications including fugitive emissions, dust control operations, hazardous waste sites, remediation sites (Brownfield), mining sites, pulp and paper operations, grain mills, and foundries.

The instrument is mentioned in the EPA’s Other Test Method 34 (OTM 34) – Method to Quantify Road Dust Particulate Matter Emissions from Vehicular Travel on Paved and Unpaved Roads.
